The percussion instrument mimics the sound of a jawbone, a similar apparatus that was made from the dried jawbone of a donkey (and similar animals) and was struck so the vibration would rattle the loose teeth in their sockets."

"text": "With Roxy Music's thrillingly strange 1972 debut, the group announced themselves as a band that were unlike anyone else. Lead singer Bryan Ferry reflected on the band's art pop aesthetic in an interview saying, “The clothes we were wearing at that time would have put off quite a large chunk of people. What I liked about the American bands, the Stax label and Motown, they were into presentation and show business, mohair suits, quite slick. \n\nAnd the cover art, I thought of all the American pop culture icons, Marilyn Monroe: selling cigarettes or beer with a glamorous image.
