"text": "I was diagnosed with stage III rectal cancer when I was 4.5 months postpartum at the age of 33. I made a playlist as an attempt to capture what the cancer experience was like for the friends and family reading my blog.\n\nI had the full cancer experience -- radiation, surgery & chemo. Each chapter was horrible in its own way but chemo was by far the most difficult. My flavor of chemo, FOLFOX, brought all kinds of neuropathic issues including intolerance to cold, which meant drinking from a water fountain felt like swallowing needles.\n\nThat was back in 2008 and even though I am still grappling with side effects from treatment it's a small price to pay to be here.\n\nSending strength to my fellow survivors and the people that love and care for them. Would you please play Like eating glass by bloc party\n\nBridget"

During this time the song 'Ceremony' by New Order came on at very significant times. It seemed that every time something that she would love and approve of would happen in my life, the song would come on. At some point, it seemed clear that this was no longer a coincidence and I started to see it as a sign that she was still with me. This may sound hoaky to some, but I have stories that would make the hair on your neck stand up. I miss her. \n\nThank you KEXP for all you do.\n\nJed"

Apparently this is treatable, but the symptoms were thought to be normal for older people -that of fatigue. They first diagnosed her with a UTI and sent her home, but after a week she went to urgent care again and they noticed her white blood cell count was through the roof. She spent 2 weeks in the hospital enduring test after test and then one day in hospice at home. That same night she passed. It was all so sudden.\nShe used to go to punk shows with me in Las Vegas and was one of the cool moms. I literally am still in major grieving mode as you can imagine.\nWe once went to a Lloyd Cole concert together and met him- they spoke for a bit so I always think about this song with my mom--could you please play:\nAre You Ready to Be Heartbroken by Lloyd Cole and the Commotions? Her name was Mary.\n\nThank you!\nGina"

To put it lightly 2017 was a doozy.\n\nThank you for bringing this community together, and I hope that this day helps folks to get motivated to get screened.\n\nIf you could play “in my life” by the Beatles I’d appreciate it. After he passed I had to go to the car to be alone and that song was on the radio. Being the huge Beatles fan that he was I took it as a sign that things were going to be okay and that song has helped me every time I miss him.\n\nMy dad never smoked a day in his life and died of lung cancer, please get screened when you can and be safe everyone.\n\n- Ryan in San Francisco"

"text": "Stefinanne McCargar in Porland \t\n\nAt the age of 38, and a new single mom, I was diagnosed with an extraordinarily aggressive breast cancer. To Zion by Lauryn Hill was my go to get on my feet and dance. That song gave me strength and joy. I danced to it in the hospital connected to tubes and IVs. I danced to it with my nurse, who had the biggest hugs ever. I danced it for the love of my 2 year old son. I still dance it now 26 years later. Often. Thank you from of the bottom of this still beating heart KEXP for these amazing healing events. Love, Stef"

"text": "Hi, \n\nNot really sure this fits in the theme of the day, and i've just realized how long this message has gotten, but it's time I said thank you again to KEXP, all of the DJs and the community again. \n\nLast year I got the news that my mother had decided against trying to treat a very aggressive and difficult to identify bile duct cancer, which quickly led to other problems, and she entered hospice care. I drove from New Jersey to Florida the next morning and KEXP rode with me the whole way. Somewhere in South Carolina, I requested (without texting while driving) last night the dj saved my life and I'll always remember listening to it in the Welcome to Georgia rest stop. \n\nOnce I arrived she never woke up, and I honestly don't know if either of us got the closure we needed, but I'll always remember that KEXP was there when I needed it. \n\nThank you, \nRaymond in New Jersey"
