"text": "Six Degrees of Robert Smith/The Cure!\n\nMark Lanegan's collaboration with The Separate (also known as The Separate Orchestra of Skin and Bone) resulted in this track for their 2012 album, Orchestral Variations. \n\nThe Separate is a musical project and album title featuring the work of orchestral arranger and violinist Fiona Brice. The project's primary release, The Separate: Orchestral Variations Vol. 1, is a collection of contemporary pop covers reimagined for string quartet and guest vocalists. The album features a string quartet as the central ensemble, replacing standard pop instrumentation with orchestral arrangements.\n\nHigh-profile alternative vocalists contributed to the project, most notably Brian Molko of Placebo, who performed a cover of the Pet Shop Boys' \"West End Girls\". Other featured vocalists have included this track with Mark Lanegan."

"text": "Noel Gallagher and Robert Smith first established contact via email in 2022 to collaborate on a remix, despite Gallagher being a lifelong fan of The Cure. They did not actually meet in person until after the collaboration was completed. \n\nThe connection began during the recording of the Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds album Council Skies.\n\nWhile developing the track \"Pretty Boy,\" Gallagher felt the song's direction was reminiscent of \"the golden age of The Cure.\" Gallagher obtained Smith's email address and sent a message that began, \"Hi Robert, it’s Noel Gallagher\". He admitted he initially worried Smith might reject the request due to his past association with Oasis.\n\nSmith responded positively, requesting the track. He subsequently produced a remix of \"Pretty Boy\" that Gallagher described as sounding \"exactly like the Cure\""

It has a punk rock vibe to it, and it might even convert you into a Wedding Present fan."

It was fantastic. I’ve never had such a visceral reaction to a cover version before or since,\" Smith told Blender back in 2003."

"text": "Six Degrees of Robert Smith/The Cure!\n\nThe distinctive Tim Pope-directed video for this track depicts the band in performance, enhanced by 360-degree shots and drawn-in, colourful socks. Robert Smith had a camera, held by cables, which he could push away and hold at will; as did Porl Thompson, fixed on his guitar.\n\nTim Pope said of the video, \"I think Robert is a true English eccentric, you see. He's an absolute nutcase; he's absolutely mad. Therefore, the films are very easy because I just do a close-up of his face and let him go a bit mad.\"\n\nSmith has stated that it was one of his favourite Cure videos, feeling \"it captures the song\", saying \"We wanted to make a video that portrayed us as we are, without looking glamorous or anything, because I got very fed up with seeing people strutting and preening in videos. I think it’s the most tedious thing in the world, seeing the same people with different faces.\" https://tinyurl.com/bdf95dw4"
