The group, and its [Ian] MacKaye-run record label, Dischord, refused to sell t-shirts, koozies, or keychains at their always $5, always all-ages (does that sound familiar?) shows. “We just want to put out records. The rest seems somewhat empty,” said MacKaye when asked about the matter.\n\n Someone began printing and low-key selling their own fake shirts, some of which featured a line from “Merchandise” on the back: “You are not what you own.” They now sell for hundreds of bucks when they pop up online.
