It is being enabled by the US Government who arm and fund Israel despite their war crimes. Fuck Israel, Free Palestine.\"\n\nAccording to the band, these messages were censored from the American livestream along with a portion of their set. https://tinyurl.com/2rmvkjxr\n\nThe group has been at the centre of public debates about free speech and the expression of political opinions within Ireland and the UK. Their themes focus on working class Belfast youth culture, Irish republicanism, and Irish language rights. In concert, they have made statements supporting Palestinian nationalism and condemning the Gaza genocide. Their name is derived from the extralegal punishment attacks meted out by Northern Ireland paramilitary groups.\n\nThe name Kneecap is a word play, referring to both the practice of kneecapping, a punishment of gunshots to the knees which Republican paramilitaries would inflict on what they described as \"political\" and \"normal\" criminals, including drug dealers and others, as a form of vigilante justice, and the Irish phrase \"ní cheapaim\" (which sounds like \"kneecap him\"), meaning \"I don't think so.\"\n\nMóglaí said it is intentionally ironic that a group with the name Kneecap sings \"about things that would get us kneecapped\", such as drugs.\n\nThe stage name Mo Chara in Irish means \"my friend,\" Móglaí Bap refers to the singer being noted for his bowl haircut as a kid, reminiscent of the character Mowgli in the cartoon The Jungle Book, and DJ Próvaí comes from the Provisional IRA. https://tinyurl.com/58uwjh6k", "location": 1, "location_name": "Default", "play_type": "trackplay" }, { "id": 3549875, "uri": "https://api.kexp.org/v2/plays/3549875/?format=api", "airdate": "2025-09-07T02:50:01-07:00", "show": 64497, "show_uri": "https://api.kexp.org/v2/shows/64497/?format=api", "image_uri": "https://ia804600.us.archive.org/9/items/mbid-24f4a20e-f11d-4cab-bd86-2e4506a4ef94/mbid-24f4a20e-f11d-4cab-bd86-2e4506a4ef94-30885989172_thumb500.jpg", "thumbnail_uri": "https://ia904600.us.archive.org/9/items/mbid-24f4a20e-f11d-4cab-bd86-2e4506a4ef94/mbid-24f4a20e-f11d-4cab-bd86-2e4506a4ef94-30885989172_thumb250.jpg", "song": "R&B", "track_id": "bff32f18-d4ca-4856-af3a-4ff739e93a40", "recording_id": "9875fa8b-40b9-40aa-9c03-88e2e1296f72", "artist": "English Teacher", "artist_ids": [ "b60fd6f1-a47a-4021-b8df-83f8e8893e91" ], "album": "IRP September (2021) Vol. 2", "release_id": "24f4a20e-f11d-4cab-bd86-2e4506a4ef94", "release_group_id": "4972fdf3-afb6-403a-8295-747b882fcefb", "labels": [ "Indie/Rock Playlist" ], "label_ids": [ "1793a058-5c9e-4b17-93c0-ec4dbe4bff50" ], "release_date": "2021-09-01", "rotation_status": "Library", "is_local": false, "is_request": false, "is_live": false, "comment": "Lily Fontaine of the Leeds-based band shares, \"There's a lot of judgment that I had early on.
