Islands\n\nOut of Sweden, siblings Olof and Karin Dreijer (now of Fever Ray) started The Knife using \"what they had on hand: a sampler the size of a suitcase, an organ, their father’s accordion, a bass guitar... Following their noses, their experiments grew into a collection of curious electronic pop songs that they decided to release on their own label, Rabid Records.\"\n\nhttps://theknife.net/bio\n\nhttps://theknife.bandcamp.com/", "location": 1, "location_name": "Default", "play_type": "trackplay" }, { "id": 3543322, "uri": "https://api.kexp.org/v2/plays/3543322/?format=api", "airdate": "2025-08-22T14:59:19-07:00", "show": 64356, "show_uri": "https://api.kexp.org/v2/shows/64356/?format=api", "image_uri": "https://dn721800.ca.archive.org/0/items/mbid-b061269f-335f-4734-a125-e19da97393cd/mbid-b061269f-335f-4734-a125-e19da97393cd-25933274728_thumb500.jpg", "thumbnail_uri": "https://dn721800.ca.archive.org/0/items/mbid-b061269f-335f-4734-a125-e19da97393cd/mbid-b061269f-335f-4734-a125-e19da97393cd-25933274728_thumb250.jpg", "song": "Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)", "track_id": "36cb9785-3eb4-42b1-b797-d8789eab5b2e", "recording_id": "185cccea-a612-4124-9610-f9c86869984a", "artist": "Hot 8 Brass Band", "artist_ids": [ "a13d7621-b81c-4cf5-87ac-eb7e86dda70f" ], "album": "Take Cover", "release_id": "cb360f21-8822-48d3-8489-62f88d062593", "release_group_id": "d2dc9cde-df0e-461f-a1c0-4db0c2324a2c", "labels": [ "Tru Thoughts" ], "label_ids": [ "095a742b-c292-43e2-b10d-e93e46c446db" ], "release_date": "2019-02-22", "rotation_status": "Library", "is_local": false, "is_request": false, "is_live": false, "comment": "Out to Nick in Portland\n\n\"I’d like to request a brass band jam for my wife Kumi, about to start her second leg of the Hood to Coast race. Brown's mother, Lyla Brown, was a housekeeper. His father, Albert Louis Moody, was a United States Marine. Brown's father, however, was not present in his life, and Brown lived in poverty.\n\nWhen Brown was six years old, he moved to Washington, D.C., and at 15 he started living on the streets. He did not graduate high school; after quitting school he decided to perform odd jobs to make money, including shining shoes.\n\nIn the 1950s, Brown was convicted of murder and served eight years in Lorton Correctional Complex. At first, the case was tried as aggravated assault; however, it was moved up to murder once the victim died. Brown stated that his actions were in self-defense.\n\nIn prison, he traded cigarettes for a guitar, which was how his love for the instrument began. When Brown completed his sentence, he moved back to Washington, D.C., and worked as a truck driver, a bricklayer, and a sparring partner at multiple boxing gyms. He also started to perform at parties throughout the area; however, he could not play at venues that served liquor because his probation officer would not allow it.\n\nBrown received his first Grammy Award nomination in 2011 for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals for \"Love\" (with Jill Scott and Marcus Miller), from the album We Got This. https://tinyurl.com/y6ppsdkv", "location": 1, "location_name": "Default", "play_type": "trackplay" }, { "id": 3543319, "uri": "https://api.kexp.org/v2/plays/3543319/?format=api", "airdate": "2025-08-22T14:43:36-07:00", "show": 64356, "show_uri": "https://api.kexp.org/v2/shows/64356/?format=api", "image_uri": "https://coverartarchive.org/release/86022938-248b-48d7-967a-ecad254a401c/24717327591-500.jpg", "thumbnail_uri": "https://coverartarchive.org/release/86022938-248b-48d7-967a-ecad254a401c/24717327591-250.jpg", "song": "I’d Rather Be With You", "track_id": null, "recording_id": "4044e66f-feee-4ebe-8264-d92ef46352d6", "artist": "Bootsy's Rubber Band", "artist_ids": [], "album": "Stretchin’ Out in Bootsy’s Rubber Band", "release_id": null, "release_group_id": "07b0a46b-18af-398a-a336-a844cb0b395d", "labels": [ "Rhino" ], "label_ids": [ "c4f2cf49-b57c-4cc1-8061-f54400704ac4" ], "release_date": "1976-01-01", "rotation_status": null, "is_local": false, "is_request": false, "is_live": false, "comment": "Some Bootsy Collins out to James from Port Angeles \n\nThis was the debut album by American funk and soul band Bootsy's Rubber Band, an offshoot act of Parliament-Funkadelic led by bassist and vocalist William \"Bootsy\" Collins.
