The result is a sound that swirls through obscurity while evoking the feeling of being lost, yet still hopeful. With a lush soundscape that includes keys, woodwinds, horns, guitars, vibraphone, glockenspiel, and more, Instant Holograms On Metal Film paints a vivid picture and marks a thrilling return for Stereolab. https://kexp.org/read/2025/5/26/new-music-reviews-526/\n\nhttps://stereolab.bandcamp.com/",

"comment": "For their third full-length, psych rockers Spaceface (Los Angeles, CA) rely heavily on a dichotomous production, cleverly mish-mashing dinky, lo-fi home recordings with high-end studio trickery, in delivering an absolute barrage of indie earworms that range from solemn dream pop all the way to punky electronica. Taking its name from the studio where it eventually came together as an album, Lunar Manor is in essence a chassé-croisé, a succession of timeless jams where synthesizer-fueled-maximalist-new-wave arrangements dynamize simple, heartfelt songwriting with subtle aplomb.\nhttps://spaceyourface.bandcamp.com/album/lunar-manor",

"comment": "Eddie Henderson was one of the few trumpeters who was strongly influenced by Miles Davis’ work of his early fusion period. He grew up in San Francisco, studied trumpet at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, but was trained to be a doctor when he permanently chose music. Henderson worked with John Handy, Tyrone Washington, and Joe Henderson, in addition to his own group. He gained some recognition for his work with the Herbie Hancock Sextet (1970-1973), although his own records (which utilized electronics) tended to be commercial. After Hancock broke up his group, Henderson worked with Art Blakey and Mike Nock, recorded with Charles Earland, and later, in the 1970s, led a rock-oriented group. In the ’90s, he returned to playing acoustic hard bop (touring with Billy Harper in 1991) while also working as a psychiatrist.",

The album's first track, \"Sweet Love\", was a top 10 Billboard hit in addition to winning a Grammy Award. This great 1986 song was written by Baker herself, with Louis A. Johnson, and Gary Bias. Here she is, singing it live: \nhttps://youtu.be/AKoKpYsTz9c",
