"comment": "Songwriter and vocalist Mike Scott: I was in Manhattan with my girlfriend, Krista. She asked: “Is it easy to write songs?” In my 20s I hadn’t yet grown out of the urge to show off to a new girlfriend, so I said: “Yes it is!” I pulled a pen and a piece of paper out of my pocket. There was a moon in the sky, so I wrote down: “I saw the crescent, you saw the whole of the moon.” She was duly impressed. I fleshed it out in the hotel and back home in London came up with more lyrics and the piano part, a self-taught rhythm with one finger doing one pattern and three fingers doing another. \n\nHere's an interview with Scott and backing vocalist Max Edie about how The Waterboys made this great song: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2020/jul/27/how-we-made-waterboys-the-whole-of-the-moon-mike-scott",

James (1902-1969) grew up at the Woodbine Plantation and as a youth learned to play both guitar and piano. At his 1931 session for Paramount he recorded eighteen songs, including the dark-themed “Devil Got My Woman” and “Hard Time Killing Floor Blues.” He later became a minister, but returned to performing blues during the 1960s “blues revival.”\n\nhttps://msbluestrail.org/blues-trail-markers/skip-james",

"comment": "For his epic 15-track sophomore album, Nigerian-born, London-based visionary Obongjayar unveils an irresistible, prismatic fusion of art-pop, alt-R&B, Afrobeats, and synth-pop. Unencumbered by genre norms, his adventurous, hook-laden arrangements showcase his emphatic vocals, dizzying synths, frenzied percussion, groovy rhythms, and a myriad of sonic influences, all seamlessly woven into his infectious, singular sound. ‘Paradise Now’ portrays an endlessly inspired and inspiring talent who knows no bounds. – Chris Sanley, KEXP Music Director\n===\nttps://obongjayar.bandcamp.com/album/paradise-now \nhttps://www.obongjay.ar/",
