In the middle of the event, a woman started convulsing and a curandero (a traditional healer) asked Anario to play her violin as a means of healing this woman. Panicked, she strummed “El Pescador” — one of the hymns she’d learned in Catholic masses as a kid — and her band chimed in. The woman got better, and the healer took Anario into the woods and instructed her to address the demon that she had helped expel. She called herself La Bruja de Texcoco and began identifying as a woman (prior to that night, she had been living as a cisgender man). According to Bandcamp’s profile of her, “she is still understanding how her powerful trans femininity can be tied to both the music she makes as La Bruja, and the impact it has on her own personal life.” https://bit.ly/4meeuJB\n\nVideo from the artist's Live on KEXP from Mexico City with La Bruja de Texcoco performing at El Desierto Casa Estudio.
