"comment": "Often thought of as a song about the black experience, \"Fight The Power\" is more of a general statement on rising above the powers that be. The youngest Isley Brother, Marvin, explained in a 1976 interview with Blues & Soul: \"We don't close ourselves away like some entertainers do – we listen to the radio, read the newspapers and generally get into what's happening out there in an attempt to reflect the world as it is. With The Heat Is On, we wanted to be as funky as possible musically, and yet for the lyrics to say something unusual. 'Fight The Power'? Well, we decided not to be passive, to take a stand. And we met hardly any resistance because that power could be anything – we all have our different conceptions of what it is to each of us. And just letting it out – about the bulls--t that does go down – is something that everyone wants to do.\"",

"comment": "“List of Demands (Reparations)” originally appeared on Saul Williams' 2004 self-titled album. \n\nConcerning the intent of his lyrics Williams made the following annotation at Genius: “I’m tired of the bulls**t. I’m tired of the hustle and the make-believe hustle. I’m tired of buying into ideas that divorce me from my potential. I’m tired of having my potential explained in terms of money.\"\n\nhttps://genius.com/1539217\n\nWatch the video here:\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXzK0AFpmcI",

"comment": "English electronic music duo Disclosure consists of brothers Howard and Guy Lawrence. The song \"ENERGY\" uses vocal samples by Eric Thomas, whose vocals were also sampled on the duo's debut studio album \"Settle.\" In a statement, the Lawrence brothers said, \"When we found Eric many years ago, he was like a goldmine of inspirational quotes and motivational speeches. Even if he was speaking to a room of five it was like he was addressing a stadium. He has an immense presence and energy about him that translates so well into music – especially house music. This time we cut up various speeches to make something that makes sense. What he says is basically the whole concept for the record, that's why it became the title track.\"\n---\nhttps://www.disclosureofficial.com/",

"comment": "Mick Collins and his merry band of Dirtbombs (which, this time around, features Bantam Rooster's Tom Potter and Detroit studio wiz Jim Diamond) bring the soul on their sophomore album Ultraglide In Black, named after Ultraglide in Blue, a cool late-nite flick from your youth. All the influences that helped shaped his sonic psyche are in the forefront here - Sly & the Family Stone, Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder, Parliament, the Miracles and host of others too obscure to mention all have their presence felt.\n---\nI'm Qualified to Satisfy You is a Barry White Cover, check it out here:\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-INHhDwe0Q\n---\nhttps://thedirtbombs.bandcamp.com/album/ultraglide-in-black\n\nhttps://intheredrecords.com/collections/the-dirtbombs",
