I was living in DC and he was in DC doing an internship at a law office. He had another semester of law school to complete at Stanford, so he left just before Christmas of that year. We didn't really profess any great commitment - we had really only been dating for a few weeks before he left. But we stayed in touch, and I sent him this mixed tape along with a few others as a way to be connected. The technology was laughable. I would hold a recorder up to my turntable to get the songs. I remember being proud of figuring out ways to 'fade in' a song so that you wouldn't hear the click of the recorder at the beginning or end of the songs.

\"The tape is long gone, probably eaten by a cassette machine somewhere or lost in a series of moves, including one across country to Seattle. There was also a long, handwritten letter that went with the tape explaining the song choice. I wish I could find that now, as honestly I'm confused by some of the choices! Most of the songs I still love, but others, while I recognize them, would hardly be described as favorites. Fortunately my taste in men has remained more constant. After more than a year of having a long distance relationship, 'the guy' moved back to DC and eventually we got married. We will celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary in 2020.\"", "location": 1, "location_name": "Default", "play_type": "trackplay" }, { "id": 374433, "uri": "https://api.kexp.org/v2/plays/374433/?format=api", "airdate": "2019-08-30T10:48:00-07:00", "show": 6230, "show_uri": "https://api.kexp.org/v2/shows/6230/?format=api", "image_uri": "", "thumbnail_uri": "", "song": "Edge of Seventeen", "track_id": "c6f5f0f2-ee1e-304f-baff-89f32b97a8f8", "recording_id": null, "artist": "Stevie Nicks", "artist_ids": [], "album": "Bella Donna", "release_id": "8cac14fb-5081-44d5-b5bb-75c0b96a1644", "release_group_id": null, "labels": [ "Modern Records" ], "label_ids": [], "release_date": "1983-11-29", "rotation_status": "Library", "is_local": false, "is_request": false, "is_live": false, "comment": null, "location": 1, "location_name": "Default", "play_type": "trackplay" }, { "id": 374434, "uri": "https://api.kexp.org/v2/plays/374434/?format=api", "airdate": "2019-08-30T10:54:00-07:00", "show": 6230, "show_uri": "https://api.kexp.org/v2/shows/6230/?format=api", "image_uri": "", "thumbnail_uri": "", "song": "Everybody I Love You", "track_id": null, "recording_id": null, "artist": "Crosby Stills Nash and Young", "artist_ids": [], "album": "Deja Vu", "release_id": null, "release_group_id": null, "labels": [], "label_ids": [], "release_date": "1950-01-01", "rotation_status": "Library", "is_local": false, "is_request": false, "is_live": false, "comment": null, "location": 1, "location_name": "Default", "play_type": "trackplay" }, { "id": 374435, "uri": "https://api.kexp.org/v2/plays/374435/?format=api", "airdate": "2019-08-30T10:56:00-07:00", "show": 6230, "show_uri": "https://api.kexp.org/v2/shows/6230/?format=api", "image_uri": "http://coverartarchive.org/release/2198fee7-dd6b-34d2-bf0f-5f0eda790699/20053049258-250.jpg", "thumbnail_uri": "", "song": "Cinnamon Girl", "track_id": "bf64769a-62ba-3dca-8a9e-62ba55ef225e", "recording_id": null, "artist": "Neil Young & Crazy Horse", "artist_ids": [ "75167b8b-44e4-407b-9d35-effe87b223cf" ], "album": "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere", "release_id": "2198fee7-dd6b-34d2-bf0f-5f0eda790699", "release_group_id": null, "labels": [ "Reprise Records" ], "label_ids": [ "af6d6f49-2b4d-40fe-86d4-241906772b59" ], "release_date": "1987-08-04", "rotation_status": "Library", "is_local": false, "is_request": false, "is_live": false, "comment": "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere was Neil Young's first album with Crazy Horse as his backing band.", "location": 1, "location_name": "Default", "play_type": "trackplay" }, { "id": 374436, "uri": "https://api.kexp.org/v2/plays/374436/?format=api", "airdate": "2019-08-30T10:59:00-07:00", "show": 6230, "show_uri": "https://api.kexp.org/v2/shows/6230/?format=api", "image_uri": "", "thumbnail_uri": "", "song": "Middle of the Road", "track_id": "aaebfd86-6979-39c3-a4ab-9e04422dabf4", "recording_id": null, "artist": "The Pretenders", "artist_ids": [ "e9c832b0-384b-4ee6-aec0-111372784aac" ], "album": "The Singles", "release_id": "fcf4f7da-c37e-3704-ad4f-20e090e8b4ef", "release_group_id": null, "labels": [ "WEA Records" ], "label_ids": [], "release_date": "1987-01-01", "rotation_status": "Library", "is_local": false, "is_request": false, "is_live": false, "comment": null, "location": 1, "location_name": "Default", "play_type": "trackplay" }, { "id": 374437, "uri": "https://api.kexp.org/v2/plays/374437/?format=api", "airdate": "2019-08-30T11:03:27-07:00", "show": 6230, "show_uri": "https://api.kexp.org/v2/shows/6230/?format=api", "image_uri": "", "thumbnail_uri": "", "comment": null, "location": 1, "location_name": "Default", "play_type": "airbreak" }, { "id": 374438, "uri": "https://api.kexp.org/v2/plays/374438/?format=api", "airdate": "2019-08-30T11:06:29-07:00", "show": 6230, "show_uri": "https://api.kexp.org/v2/shows/6230/?format=api", "image_uri": "http://coverartarchive.org/release/5e22166e-4646-378a-afc8-affd950319ce/23762971549-250.jpg", "thumbnail_uri": "", "song": "Can't Get Out of Bed", "track_id": "2e845f44-46cd-3a94-8e77-8c3f29eab18b", "recording_id": null, "artist": "The Charlatans", "artist_ids": [ "8434409e-baa9-4e12-b4aa-566a91c7d7cf" ], "album": "Up to Our Hips", "release_id": "5e22166e-4646-378a-afc8-affd950319ce", "release_group_id": null, "labels": [ "Beggars Banquet" ], "label_ids": [ "5917da67-b605-4a08-a5a0-a6874501dda4" ], "release_date": "1999-08-01", "rotation_status": "Library", "is_local": false, "is_request": false, "is_live": false, "comment": "From Amanda's mixtape \"The Union Jing.\" Amanda says: \"It's the mid nineties, two American girls in London at the height of the Brit Pop phenomenon. Each song is an emotional time capsule that can bring me back to a specific moment whether it be hanging out with friends who will never be in the same room again or spending time with a gal where we both knew it would be our last date. As I move forward and change in life my time capsule grows larger.

\"None of the songs are in chronological order in my time listening to them. One of the earliest songs on my list, The Air Near My Fingers, is at the end of the list yet it reminds me of the excitement it brought me when listening to full White Stripes records with my dad as he picked me up for the weekends after the divorce. TM Juke was an artist I most recently discovered with a friend while sharing drunken goodbyes on a Seattle rooftop only months ago yet it is in the middle of my list. I paced this mixtape from upbeat, to slow, then to upbeat again to mirror my feelings during change. I become excited about the change, endless possibilities are at hand! I then become a bit sad about what will be left behind. After the sadness I am hit again with excitement that the change is happening at all and become hopeful for what the future will bring, more songs most definitely.

\"This mixtape is no where near done, I reckon I will have dozens of tracks added before I pass away. But it is very important to me and I thought I'd share.\"", "location": 1, "location_name": "Default", "play_type": "trackplay" } ] }
