In this mind-boggling start to '26 for the entire human species, I've had my personal life upended as well. \nOn 3/30/23 I had 4 ischemic strokes and an ensuing heart procedure on 7/2/23 that was thought to have resolved the root cause. I survived a near-death experience and felt rather miraculous. Then, on 12/28/25--a couple of weeks ago--I had a seizure while on a bike ride. It was my first ever; I came to in the back of an ambulance, absolutely (sober and) unaware how I got there. The cause is still unknown. The 2 events may or may not be related. I still have more tests and neurology appointments to work through in the hope that they find a cause. It's very, very difficult to feel optimistic about anything right now, but I am trying to lean into gratitude. It doesn't always feel genuine, but I do know that I'm still way more fortunate than generations of equally deserving folks across this crazy planet, and if I can get to gratitude, it genuinely helps.
