"comment": "JoyCut will be performing with Archive in Seattle on May 5 at Neumos, Portland on May 7 at the Hawthorne Theatre, and in San Francisco on May 10 at The Independent!\n\nBeloved by Robert Smith, Bologna's JoyCut were invited by Smith to perform a specially curated edition of the Meltdown Festival with The Cure in London in 2018. \n\nThere also can’t be many bands inspired by José Mourinho to release a fifteen-track concept album split into three \"sections,\" but then, Italy’s JoyCut are not your average band.\n\nExploring the concept of \"passage,\" deconstructing the precepts of human behavior in \"events and destiny,\" and tackling themes of \"memory and future\" are the three suites the album is arranged around – heavy topics to confront in one’s art, but ones that have proved fertile ground for the Bologna-based trio.\n\nThe trio's songs are a heady mix of industrial drones, post-rock guitars, and dark-wave synths. Some are short but sweet, dynamic blasts of rhythm and texture, while others are sprawling soundscapes that stretch out past the horizon and the sky. https://bit.ly/3Pr60ir \n\nJoyCut graced us with a sublime performance in our Live Room back in 2023; check it out here: https://tinyurl.com/ky5jnahk",

It lands like a 2026 answer record to classic roots themes: instead of doom, it offers steady, anti‑panic reassurance that the foundation is strong and we move forward step by step, \"at we feet.\"\n\nProtoje will be at the UC Theatre in Berkeley on May 10th and at The Showbox at the Market in Seattle on May 13th.\n\nhttps://www.protoje.com/",

"comment": "After another blockbuster year, the DJ de jour lands with the second official instalment of his “infinite” album project, USB. Dropped incrementally over the course of a 10-week, 10-city tour, USB002 is a slick odyssey through contemporary dance music, with a typically bass-heavy thrust and names like Amyl and the Sniffers, Danny Brown, and Floating Points helping out. It makes for an energetic soundtrack to stadium raves, but it’s not always easy to tell what, if anything, he’s trying to say with it beneath the snarling low end.\n\nhttps://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/fred-again-usb002/\n\nhttps://fredagainagain.bandcamp.com/album/usb-volume-1\nhttps://fredagainagain.bandcamp.com/album/usb002\nhttps://www.fredagain.com/",

"comment": "Today is Genesis Breyer P-Orridge's birthday, born in Manchester in 1950.\n\nBorn Neil Andrew Megson, the visual, musical and performance artist whose work with Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV gave rise to the industrial and acid house genres, died in 2020 at age 70, after being diagnosed with leukemia two-and-a-half years before his death. P-Orridge never meant to engender industrial music, the genre with which they are most closely associated. With their collaborators in the avant-garde arts collective COUM Transmissions and its house band Throbbing Gristle, they clawed away at music as they knew it; what came to be known as industrial was simply what was left. The English musician, artist and social provocateur saw destruction as a means to creation, and took everything from noise to language to their own body, which they modified extensively before and during their gender transition, as raw material for reordering the world.\n https://www.npr.org/2020/03/15/816088912/genesis-breyer-p-orridge-provocateur-and-industrial-co-creator-dead-at-70",
