"comment": "This song was the debut single from the group. It is one of the few Smashing Pumpkins songs credited to both lead singer Billy Corgan and guitarist James Iha. When the band played this song live in the early '90s, lead singer Billy Corgan would often insert improvised speeches into the bass break section. This would often lead to the track extending to 8 to 10 minutes in length.\n--\nWatch the band perform it live in Detroit in 1999: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efRzaHIQeOo",

It's their their first releases since the death of their guitarist Thomas Sloane and was recorded before his death. \n--\n\"A lot of the push to get the record out there was to do justice to the work that we did with him,\" bandmember Mike Barnett says, continuing: Everybody loved his guitar playing. People would come up to me after shows and be like, \"His guitar player was so amazing.\" I think it's going to be important for people to have one of his last works out there. I think it's his best. I think these are probably our best songs. It's probably his best playing. It's him at the top of his game.",

While they’re often regarded as one of the leading lights of 80s synth pop, Midge Ure and Billy Currie took the opportunity to explain why they always regarded themselves as closer to prog than new romantic. Enjoy this feature: https://www.loudersound.com/bands-artists/ultravox-vienna-prog\n--\nR.I.P., Ultravox bassist Chris Cross, who co-wrote the U.K. new wave group’s 1981 smash “Vienna,” who died in March of 2024. The song is about a girl who is an outcast at her school (the “graveyard girl”).
