"comment": "Speaking on the album, the band says: “We, Mandrake Handshake are all set to arrive at our first destination: Space Beach. A land of dichotomies, where the sea joins the sky and trees reach up and tickle the bellies of stars, \n\nSpace Beach is a marriage of the organic and mechanical, the intimate and the epic, and offers a heady draught from which you may gladly sup. Here, when peering into this horizon, blooms of planets and comets, asteroids and moons reveal themselves, and, inside them, countless tales: victory and defeat, love and hate, future and past, all wrapped up in each of these Earth-Sized Worlds. So come, join us, and stay awhile\". \n\nhttps://mandrakehandshake.bandcamp.com/album/earth-sized-worlds",

Go is a soul drenched horn-driven romp. Go starts with deep horns and rhythmic attacks. As the track continues it takes you on a journey through genre and era with synths and reggae feel. Go features solos from Kramer on trombone and the unmistakable guitar of Seattle's own Jimmy James. Go features stellar musicians from Seattle bands True Loves, Polyrhythmics and High Pulp.\"\n\nhttps://gregkramer.bandcamp.com/track/go\nhttps://www.krameroriginals.com/",

It is the first song that I engineered all of the instruments myself at my home studio.\n\n\"At the time, I thought I was recording a demo and most of the parts are first takes. We kept all of the imperfections, and nothing was overthought.\n\n\"For the music video, we wanted to lean into that same spirit and gave ourselves only a few hours to film in a very small space. The song is equally existential as it is tongue in cheek, and we wanted the video to reflect more of the raw elements of who we are as a band.\" https://tinyurl.com/muzwaysa\n\nYou can check out the cheeky video here: https://tinyurl.com/4r7xad4x",

Cropper’s distinctive guitar work was featured on many of the tracks out of Stax Records, the influential Memphis soul label he helped establish in the ‘60s & ‘70s. \n---\n\n “Green Onions” was an unplanned recording by a group of musicians who never intended to form a band. “It was pretty much an accident,” guitarist Steve Cropper confirmed in 2014. “It was just one of those things that fell together by chance.” Nevertheless, the 1962 single from the album became the first #1 R&B hit for the gritty Southern soul powerhouse known as Stax Records.",

"comment": "The fourth album from this Oakland-based outfit fronted by Malian singer Mariam Diakite is another stellar set of African psychedelic rock that’s soulful, funky, groovy, and hypnotic. Translated as “Destiny,” Dakan is a vibrant fusion of fiery electric guitars, boisterous horns, soaring saxophone, propulsive rhythms, and Mariam’s transfixing vocals inspired by her deep faith and devotion to the Baye Fall tradition, a mystical branch of West African Islam that favors direct communion with the divine over dogma. – Alex Ruder, KEXP's Associate Music Director \nhttps://www.kexp.org/read/2025/10/20/new-music-reviews-1020/",
