"comment": "Nation of Language is playing Seattle's Showbox on Thursday and Friday, October 9th and 10th. They're at SF's Fillmore on Thursday, October 13th.\n---\nIan Devaney said of this Pixies cover: When Aidan suggested “Gouge Away” I was immediately struck by how badly I wanted to rework it in our style, and the whole song mapped itself out in my head right away. I didn’t let myself listen to the original from then until it was fully recorded so I might forget certain details about it, leaving only my impression of it’s foundational elements – the way the quiet, unsettling verses give way to the savage choruses, the way the big transitional guitar line overwhelms you every time it happens. What we ended up with felt like an honest reimagining so we’re proud to present it to everyone and shed light on our favorite song by a band we really love.",

The second half has the woman talking back, admitting it's all in her mind but arguing that it only makes her worthier of pity. She guilts him for the accusation. "comment": "This new single, “Disco Life,” is based on the disturbing story of the infamous “Disco Demolition Night,” a notorious promotion held on July 12th, 1979, at Chicago’s Comiskey Park during a White Sox doubleheader. Organized by radio DJ Steve Dahl, it invited fans to bring disco records to be blown up on the field between games. The stunt drew more than 50,000 people—far exceeding expectations—and spiraled out of control. After the explosion, thousands of attendees stormed the field, causing chaos and forcing the White Sox to forfeit the second game. Hot Chip picked the name for a song as a way to capture the excitement of playing together. \n--\nCo-vocalist Alexis Taylor explained the song's meaning. \"It's about the joy of playing a show,\" he said. \"The image of Huarache trainers seemed to sum up how something meaningless can encapsulate the happiness of a moment.\"\n--\nSome of the drums come from Lyn Collins' much sampled 1972 James Brown-produced track \"Think (About It).\"",
