Before I was born, they lived in Morocco. My mom moved around a lot as a kid, so my family has an affinity for moving around a lot. I was born in Belgium, moved to Switzerland, back to Belgium, then Vancouver, Canada, then Luxembourg, where I’ve been the longest at 6 years. I just don’t feel tethered to a place entirely, my identity isn’t tied to a country. But after 6 years, I do feel an affinity for my life here.\"\n\nDon't miss her live performance in the KEXP studio last year: https://youtu.be/GSIUzfj6SoA",

We're not just, like, biological fleshy bodies walking around and making money.\n\n\"Science has kind of caught up to the spiritual idea of there being multiple timelines. Your soul is just a part of this experience. There's so much more going on than meets the eye. Therefore, there's so much more possibility to talk about these things as being natural things in existence.\n\n\"Just because this didn't happen in this timeline doesn't mean it won't arrive on another one, or [that] I'm not already experiencing this in another lifetime. It's okay to let go. It's okay not to be angry. It's okay that not everything is meant to be you know. That's kind of what that whole thing is about.\" https://tinyurl.com/5xpneafc",

Joining her in the Los Angeles studio to record were Warpaint drummer Stella Mozgawa, the Last Shadow Puppets’ Zach Dawes on bass, and John Congleton behind the boards as a producer. https://tinyurl.com/yc2f2nac\n\nBarnett plays left-handed, using mostly left-handed guitars with standard tuning and string order for left-handed players (low strings at the top, high strings at the bottom).\n\nShe occasionally plays right-handed guitars flipped upside down, but does not prefer it. She learned to play on acoustic guitars, and developed her own method of fingerstyle guitar because she disliked the sound of a pick; she later transferred this playing style to the electric guitar.\n\nBarnett is capable of using a pick and claims she could probably play better with one, but prefers to play using her fingers, strumming with both her thumb and index finger on rhythm parts and using her index finger where she would otherwise use a pick for lead parts. She prefers to play in standard tuning, but has used open G tuning for slide guitar. https://tinyurl.com/y5753yn7",

More info here: https://www.tameimpala.com/\n\nWritten and produced by Kevin Parker, this song is his first solo release in five years, and his debut under Columbia.\n\nDeadbeat is Parker’s electronic and dance album, but it’s also his new father album, as his first daughter was born the year after the pre-pandemic The Slow Rush. I think all of us, when we think of the first one, we agree we sort of got half way there. But on the new one we got a lot closer to the sort of sounds we're after. There are some different aspects to it – more layered, more dynamic, as well as some more loud, dance-y sections to it. And with the guitar there were many-layered sections as well.\n\n\"It got the real highs and lows, the real floaty bits, which I think is sort of a secret to our sound, with a lot of segues so that it just sort of flows together.
