In the pic attached, we had taken the kids on a tour of KEXP, and I think it was the time Owen gave our kids, Judah and Hannah chair rides in the halls. I took a pic of Jon in the live room. His back hurt a lot. It was 2019, and in a few months he’d be diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, which a metastasis had been obliterating his spine.\n\nWe were actually at the Idles party earlier that year, at Life on Mars. He sat most of the time while I was able to mingle.\n\nTreatment at Fred Hutch got us 6 more years. We saw so many concerts together, bringing the kids to so many of them. The last shows we did as a family was this year’s Bumbershoot.\n\nI could write about him forever. The point was to ask you to play “Cold Pizza” by Jonathan Richman. We saw him this year at the Tractor, and when he needed a different seat to accommodate him, the staff instantly manifested one so he could see the whole show. Endless thanks for that to the Tractor. “It is what it is what it is what it is, Cold Pizza.” We cried and sang along. Because dying of cancer is what it is. “Cold Pizza” we’d sometimes say to each other over the past couple months.\n\nWhen I got him home a week ago for in home hospice, I set up for him to stream music to my dads 1970s receiver, and I was already queued up to play “Cold Pizza” but then it started playing - he had queued it up first.\n\nIt is what it is what it is what it is.\n\nTuesday remains the 7th best day of the week.\n\nThanks to you all at KEXP for helping me know I’m not alone.
