He has listened to KEXP for my whole life, and I’m proud to be his piano man and his blue-eyed son. We don’t live in the same house anymore—but I know how much this music means to him, and sometimes I listen too.\n\nToday is my dad’s 45th birthday. We live in North Macedonia, in Europe, many hours ahead of Seattle’s morning, but he listens to your show every single day. KEXP has been part of his life for as long as I can remember.\n\nI’m so proud of him. He’s in a wheelchair and has pushed thousands of kilometers. This summer he broke his arm, so we couldn’t go out together as much, but he always says, “never give up,” and he really lives by that.\n\nI play piano and bass, and I love Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and music with great rhythm, just like him.\n\nPlease wish him a happy birthday from me. I’m proud to be his son, and I love him very much. Thank you for making him smile every day and for being a part of his life from so far away.\n--Kalinik\n--\nWatch a live performance of \"In Bloom\" from 1992: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D742dNm1f8Q", "location": 1, "location_name": "Default", "play_type": "trackplay" }, { "id": 3552019, "uri": "https://api.kexp.org/v2/plays/3552019/?format=api", "airdate": "2025-09-12T08:09:25-07:00", "show": 64540, "show_uri": "https://api.kexp.org/v2/shows/64540/?format=api", "image_uri": "", "thumbnail_uri": "", "comment": "Go here to sign up for The Runcast: https://www.kexp.org/podcasts/the-runcast/2025/9/5/the-run-for-your-live-on-kexp-runcast/", "location": 1, "location_name": "Default", "play_type": "airbreak" }, { "id": 3552018, "uri": "https://api.kexp.org/v2/plays/3552018/?format=api", "airdate": "2025-09-12T08:06:04-07:00", "show": 64540, "show_uri": "https://api.kexp.org/v2/shows/64540/?format=api", "image_uri": "https://ia803407.us.archive.org/20/items/mbid-70e99a04-ecbd-3600-a1e6-75c0730bdbaf/mbid-70e99a04-ecbd-3600-a1e6-75c0730bdbaf-7947222783_thumb500.jpg", "thumbnail_uri": "https://ia803407.us.archive.org/20/items/mbid-70e99a04-ecbd-3600-a1e6-75c0730bdbaf/mbid-70e99a04-ecbd-3600-a1e6-75c0730bdbaf-7947222783_thumb250.jpg", "song": "Shining Road", "track_id": "bf6d878c-d4b8-3fb1-b932-00632f595f9f", "recording_id": "440bcd20-c71f-4afc-af0a-830aacab9dc9", "artist": "Cranes", "artist_ids": [ "f6dfc44d-5da4-4ed1-949b-32715630dff4" ], "album": "Loved", "release_id": "70e99a04-ecbd-3600-a1e6-75c0730bdbaf", "release_group_id": "07c97bca-9823-395b-ac11-7dd9b7acc14a", "labels": [ "Dedicated", "Arista" ], "label_ids": [ "d769b2e7-0827-461f-978c-493d522cf67d", "c62e3985-6370-446a-bfb8-f1f6122e9c33" ], "release_date": "1994-10-11", "rotation_status": null, "is_local": false, "is_request": false, "is_live": false, "comment": "Did you know that the album, \"Loved,\" was released on September 12th, 1994? \n--\nThat wonderful voice is vocalist Alison Shaw, co-founder of Cranes with her brother Jim.
