I had brought back a lot of instruments. It was written at Klaus Voormann’s house in Hampstead after dinner one night. The song came to me when I was playing a pedal harmonium.\nI’d also spent a lot of time with Ravi Shankar, trying to figure out how to sit and hold the sitar, and how to play it. ‘Within You Without You’ was a song that I wrote based upon a piece of music of Ravi’s that he’d recorded for All-India Radio. It was a very long piece – maybe 30 or 40 minutes – and was written in different parts, with a progression in each. I wrote a mini version of it, using sounds similar to those I’d discovered in his piece. I recorded in three segments and spliced them together later.\n\nGeorge Harrison","location":1,"location_name":"Default","play_type":"trackplay"},{"id":3612614,"uri":"https://api.kexp.org/v2/plays/3612614/?format=json","airdate":"2026-02-03T08:03:17-08:00","show":65829,"show_uri":"https://api.kexp.org/v2/shows/65829/?format=json","image_uri":"https://ia600402.us.archive.org/7/items/mbid-fdb5dce3-e135-4d3e-ac52-b6cb0abb2e7c/mbid-fdb5dce3-e135-4d3e-ac52-b6cb0abb2e7c-6401795875_thumb500.jpg","thumbnail_uri":"https://ia800402.us.archive.org/7/items/mbid-fdb5dce3-e135-4d3e-ac52-b6cb0abb2e7c/mbid-fdb5dce3-e135-4d3e-ac52-b6cb0abb2e7c-6401795875_thumb250.jpg","song":"Carry Me","track_id":"7be07670-7250-4876-9b3e-5581699a6f65","recording_id":"fbe345b4-18d8-4a33-afcb-968db8bf61d4","artist":"Bombay Bicycle Club","artist_ids":["0ae49abe-d6af-44fa-8ab0-b9ace5690e6f"],"album":"So Long, See You Tomorrow","release_id":"fdb5dce3-e135-4d3e-ac52-b6cb0abb2e7c","release_group_id":"246454ff-c890-4f7e-9191-754085939b85","labels":["Vagrant Records"],"label_ids":["56c4226d-8962-4807-9ffa-dd6a10358fbb"],"release_date":"2014-02-04","rotation_status":null,"is_local":false,"is_request":false,"is_live":false,"comment":"On this day in 2014, Bombay Bicycle Club release So Long, See You Tomorrow, featuring \"Carry Me\" and \"Feel\".\n--\n\nHere's Bombay Bicycle Club performing \"Carry Me\" in 2014: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HeaUqj9maZQ\n---\nThis was written during a stay that Bombay Bicycle Club frontman Jack Steadman made in a Dutch place called Nijkerkerveen.
