(December 19, 1918 – January 30, 1980)

Henry Roeland \"Roy\" Byrd, better known as Professor Longhair, was a New Orleans blues singer and pianist. \nAs a child, he learned how to play on an old piano that had been left in an alley. The piano was missing some keys, which contributed to his distinctive style.\nHe began his career in New Orleans in 1948 at the Caldonia Club, where the owner gave Longhair his stage name, the “professor” part being an honorary nickname bestowed on New Orleans piano wizards. \nHe first recorded in 1949 and scored his one and only R&B chart hit with “Bald Head,” released on Mercury Records, a year later.", "location": 1, "location_name": "Default", "play_type": "trackplay" }
