"comment": "Glen in Kenmore: First, amazing show and amazing day! Thanks to you and KEXP.\nWhile our country was dealing with an unprecedented crisis and the 9/11/01 attacks, our young family was dealing with our own crisis. On Sept 22nd, my wife Barb was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. As a young mother of two kids aged 5 and 9, this wasn’t supposed to happen as the median age for getting this type of cancer was a person in their mid-60’s. Her surgery took place within 10 days. After what seemed like forever, the surgeon came out to tell me the cancer was more involved and they’d need more time. Upon asking his opinion, he told me she had “a 25-50% chance of surviving 5 years.” I was the only person in the waiting room and you could imagine all the thoughts racing through my head.\nOver the course of the next 2 years, she endured several chemo and radiation sessions. Though it seemed like doctors and hospitals were running our lives, she stayed strong and positive and it lifted the spirits of our kids and I. Our theme song became “Three Little Birds” from Bob Marley. I’m convinced that this song, along with great support from friends and family, good science, good faith and great attitudes all combined to heal her. She’s now 24 years cancer-free. Every time we hear that tune, our spirits are lifted. It would be great to hear that today!\n\nP.S. In September 2023, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer (here we go again!). My surgery was successful.",
