    "comment": "Riperton died of cancer on July 12, 1979, aged just 31.\n\nIn January 1976, Minnie was diagnosed with breast cancer, and in April, she underwent a mastectomy.\nBy the time of diagnosis, the cancer had already metastasized, and she was given just six months to live. Despite this, she continued recording and touring.\nShe was one of the first celebrities to go public with a breast cancer diagnosis, but she did not reveal that she was terminally ill at the time.\nIn 1977, she became a spokesperson for the American Cancer Society.
