    "comment": "\"The Light\" was written as a love song to Common's girlfriend at the time Erykah Badu, and was Common's first Grammy-nominated single his 2000 album  'Like Water for Chocolate'. \n\nSampling Bobby Caldwell's \"Open Your Eyes\": \n\"Dilla took his phenomenal hands, flipped this sample, and turned out a true classic to this day, with Common on the track, “the Light”.\" \n\nQuestlove, jokes about how he originally advised Common to ditch the song, advise he later would regret, “I told @Common that maybe we should lose the beat to “The Light” cause it wasn’t “Dilla enough” 😭——but Rash saw something in it man——he was like “naw man imma write to this” (later found he wrote it already 🤣😂) —-I wasn’t mad at it but at that time as a sophomore at “Dilla U” I thought I had Dilla all figured out and NONE of his trademark characteristics were rhythmically there.”.
