Prior to the emergence of Chilean Psychedelic Rock, Chile’s dominant affective disposition and sense of taste, from the colonial era through to the twentieth century, had mimicked European values, aesthetic norms, behaviours, and customs. This emulation of European cultural norms restricted notions of what could be considered aesthetically acceptable and of good taste. It also resulted in re-classifying as folk, craft, or non-art the variety of expressive forms of Indigenous nations and of the Chilean people more generally, creating a hierarchy of expressions, and limiting sensibility (López 2014; Mignolo 1992). In this context, the work of Los Jaivas constitutes an act of decolonization with respect to the predominant aesthetic values of the Chilean nation.\"\n\nhttps://iaspmjournal.net/index.php/IASPM_Journal/article/download/1035/pdf/7529", "location": 1, "location_name": "Default", "play_type": "trackplay" }, { "id": 3564450, "uri": "https://api.kexp.org/v2/plays/3564450/?format=api", "airdate": "2025-10-13T05:27:19-07:00", "show": 64823, "show_uri": "https://api.kexp.org/v2/shows/64823/?format=api", "image_uri": "", "thumbnail_uri": "", "song": "They Forgot They Survived", "track_id": null, "recording_id": null, "artist": "Khu.éex'", "artist_ids": [], "album": "They Forgot They Survived", "release_id": null, "release_group_id": null, "labels": [], "label_ids": [], "release_date": "2017-08-18", "rotation_status": null, "is_local": true, "is_request": false, "is_live": false, "comment": "Khu.éex' uses Alaskan Tlingit music as inspiration, performing contemporary funk/jazz improvisations, traditional vocals and storytelling.", "location": 1, "location_name": "Default", "play_type": "trackplay" }, { "id": 3564449, "uri": "https://api.kexp.org/v2/plays/3564449/?format=api", "airdate": "2025-10-13T05:20:19-07:00", "show": 64823, "show_uri": "https://api.kexp.org/v2/shows/64823/?format=api", "image_uri": "https://coverartarchive.org/release/9c7c8b45-e805-4d20-9551-4f9c1b69d9bc/20544327205-500.jpg", "thumbnail_uri": "https://coverartarchive.org/release/9c7c8b45-e805-4d20-9551-4f9c1b69d9bc/20544327205-250.jpg", "song": "Degi-Degi", "track_id": null, "recording_id": "5b1ac3a8-50a3-4b82-b8a7-21fa25f3df85", "artist": "Don Cherry", "artist_ids": [ "adf3879a-e091-4f73-8792-861a7a3e3abe" ], "album": "Brown Rice", "release_id": null, "release_group_id": "ba63e4a1-c4f9-308c-9c10-30acfed68bc0", "labels": [ "Horizon" ], "label_ids": [ "14f986ff-625f-4f9f-8f68-cccc5b249953" ], "release_date": "1975-01-01", "rotation_status": null, "is_local": false, "is_request": false, "is_live": false, "comment": "Don Cherry was a legendary trumpet player, who alongside Ornette Coleman, pioneered Free Jazz. After returning home from the Vietnam War, Angaiak enrolled in the University of Alaska Fairbanks. He became part of the Eskimo Language Workshop, where he worked to preserve his native language. While there, he worked with Irene Reed to produce some work in Yup'ik. In addition, he produced his only album, I'm Lost in the City. Half of this album was sung in Yup'ik; it was a success in his native Alaska, but was otherwise obscure until it was reissued by Light in the Attic Records sub-label Future Days in 2016. \n\nhttps://lightintheattic.net/collections/john-angaiak", "location": 1, "location_name": "Default", "play_type": "trackplay" }, { "id": 3564445, "uri": "https://api.kexp.org/v2/plays/3564445/?format=api", "airdate": "2025-10-13T05:06:33-07:00", "show": 64823, "show_uri": "https://api.kexp.org/v2/shows/64823/?format=api", "image_uri": "https://coverartarchive.org/release/78fb86db-e06f-424b-a798-2133b5589831/34888372832-500.jpg", "thumbnail_uri": "https://coverartarchive.org/release/78fb86db-e06f-424b-a798-2133b5589831/34888372832-250.jpg", "song": "Agajee Dona Nooch", "track_id": null, "recording_id": "5cd0b621-527c-49d7-aaf8-267d0d3bddce", "artist": "Morley Loon", "artist_ids": [ "78e7a7cc-1e02-401a-81b7-0aef7d6d46ba" ], "album": "Northland, My Land", "release_id": null, "release_group_id": "7a4dc9de-07bf-4cb1-a914-cffd9960f903", "labels": [ "Boot Records" ], "label_ids": [ "4694ce25-d925-404a-b39e-c2c4001ca56a" ], "release_date": "1981-01-01", "rotation_status": null, "is_local": false, "is_request": false, "is_live": false, "comment": "\"Accompanied by percussion and flute, Loon taps into a spiritual place with this material, achieving a transcendent quality rarely heard in music. “N’Doheeno,” which translates to “The Hunter” reflects the hunting and gathering traditions of Loon’s people and region.
